English for Work Skills

  • English for Telephoning

By the end of this course, learners will be able to

  • introduce themselves and make excuses on the phone,
  • use effective listening strategies,
  • structure a phone message, take and leave a message, and
  • use conversation strategies on the phone such as, politeness, apologizing, making recommendations, agreeing and resolving conflicts.
    • English for Presentations

By the end of this course, learners will be able to

  • welcome the audience, introduce themselves, give information about  timing and content of their presentations,
  • signpost the topics,
  • emphasize the important points, make contrasts and describe results,
  • use and talk about visuals, and
  • summarize the main points, deal with the questions, make recommendations and conclude their presentations effectively .
  • English for Meetings

By the end of this course, learners will be able to

  • suggest a meeting time,  write formal and informal agendas, write invitation letters or e-mails
  • start a meeting, state the objectives, chair a meeting,  use diplomatic language and resolve conflicts, and
  • summarize the results of a meeting, confirm decisions and action points, end a meeting and thank participants, and write follow-up e-mails in English.

  

  • English for E-Mails

By the end of this course, learners will be able to

  • structure an e-mail,
  • write and reply formal and informal enquiries, and
  • typical phrases for e-mails effectively and use diplomatic language.

 

Course Overview:

  • 4 lessons per week (50 minutes each), total lesson time in the course 16 hours
  • Teachers use course books, authentic material and out-of-class activities in their lessons.
  • Students have access to the International House worldwide online material-bank.
  • The maximum class size is 12 students - with a class average of ten.
  • Students at Intermediate level and above can attend this course.
  • Courses are available on weekdays and weekends.
